LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 499.

Volkmar, Conrad Moeller, William Mensel, and their
associates, are hereby created a corporation and body
politic, for the purpose of creating, by small contri-
butions of the members, a capital for each, to buy or
build a house, under the name and style of the Meta-
mora Building Society.

Capital stock.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the stock of this
society shall consist of two hundred and thirteen
shares, no member shall hold more than four shares,
and no member shall have more than one vote.

Election of
members.

SEC 3. And be it enacted, That no new member
shall hereafter join this society, except he be elected
at a regular meeting thereof, by a majority of votes
present.

Weekly meet-
ings, when held.

SEC 4. And be it enacted, That this society shall
hold a meeting on every Thursday evening, at such,
place as the members shall from time to time deter-
mine, and thirty members shall constitute a quorum.

Officers— how
and when cho-
sen.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the officers of this
society shall be a president, a vice president, a secre-
tary, a treasurer, and nine directors, and they shall be
elected annually, at a regular meeting of the society,
on the fourth Thursday of July, by a majority of the
votes present, but if no election should be effected on
that day, they shall be elected at the next or some
subsequent regular meeting, and the old officers shall
continue in office until their successors shall he
elected.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the present officers
of this society shall continue in office until the next
meeting for the election of officers in July, and the
election of their successors, namely: Frederick Heinz,
president, Henry F. Huffman, vice president, Conrad
Moeller, secretary, George D. Volkman, treasurer,

Conrad Schlott, Henry Weisbach, Henry Vey, John-
C. Ermold, Ludwig Waidner, George Puhl, John
Zinkan, Henry Hedrich, and Jacob Schafer, direc-
tors.

Duty of the
president.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the duties of the
president shall be, to president all meetings of the
society, and of the directory, to sign all drafts voted
by the directory on the treasurer, to preserve order,
and to fulfil, faithfully, all the duties appertaining to a
presiding officer; in the absence of the president, the
vice president shall perform his duties.

Duty of the
treasurer.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the duties of the
treasurer shall be, to receive all monies paid to the
society, and to pay all drafts on him, ordered by the
directory, and signed by the president and secretary,
