CHAP. 480.

to the aforesaid collection, make affidavit, before some
justice of the peace for Anne Arundel county, that
the same remains unpaid, and that he has not received
any security or satisfaction for the same, or any part
thereof, more than the credits allowed thereon.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall con-
tinue in force for one year, and no longer.

CHAPTER 480.

A further supplement to the act entitled, an act for
the encouragement of Primary Schools in Prince
George's county, passed at December Session, eigh-
teen hundred and thirty-eight, chapter sixty-one.

Trustees—
how appointed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the taxable inhabitants of the
respective school districts and the patrons of the
schools established under the act to which this is a
supplement, shall meet, annually, on the first Saturday
in May, at the school house within their respective
school districts, and appoint three competent persons,
taxable inhabitants or patrons, to serve as trustees for
their respective schools, whose duty it shall be to visit
said schools quarterly, or oftener, if necessary, to su-
pervise the manner in which said schools are con-
ducted, to appoint teachers, and remove any such who
may prove to be incompetent, as now provided for by
law, and to report, at least once a year, to the said
general board of trustees, the manner in which said
teachers have conducted said schools, the number of
scholars attending the same, and the punctuality and
competence with which said teachers have discharged
their duties, and said local trustees shall conduct all
examinations of the scholars in said schools, whenever
held, and report their progress to the said general
board of trustees.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That at their levy laying
term in this present year, and annually thereafter, the
Levy Court of Prince George's county, shall be and
they are hereby authorised and required, to appoint
eight discreet, sensible and prudent citizens thereof,
one from each election district, members of the gene-
ral board of trustees for primary schools of said county,
and each member of said board of trustees shall be
