LAWS OP MARYLAND.

CHAP. 434.

ber three, of the Independent Order of United Bro-
thers, attached to the Grand Band of Maryland, and
their successors, he and they are hereby incorporated
and made a body corporate and politic, by the name
and number of Mount Zion Band, of number three
of the Independent Order of United Brothers, attached
to the Grand Band of Maryland, and by that name
may sue and be sued, plead and he impleaded, have a
common seal, and the same at their pleasure alter, and
be entitled to use the powers and privileges incident
to such corporations.

Object of cor-
poration.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be capable of taking and holding real and per-
sonal estate, not exceeding in value the sum of twen-
ty thousand dollars, which estate shall never he di-
vided amongst the members of the corporation, but
shall descend to their successors for the benevolent
relief of the sink and distressed, the education of the
orphan of its members, and for the promotion of these
purposes generally.

Alterations.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this corporation
shall have power to alter and amend their bye-laws

Proviso.

at pleasure; provided, they do not conflict with the
laws of the State of Mary land, the laws of the United
States, or the laws of the Grand Band.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this corporation
shall not be permitted to issue any note, token, device,
or scrip, or other evidence of debt, to be used as a
currency.

In force, etc.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act of incor-
poration shall enure for thirty years from its passage,
and that the Legislature reserves to itself the right to
alter and annul this act of incorporation at pleasure.

CHAPTER 434.

Passed March
8, 1850.

An act for the relief of John Somervell, of Calvert
County.

To collect
wharfage.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, it shall be
lawful for John Somervell, of said county, to charge
wharfage for the use of the wharf built by him at
Deep Landing, on the Patuxent River, in said county;

Proviso.

provided however, that nothing in this act shall be
