CHAP. 422.
|
H. Barwick, collector of State taxes, for Caroline coun-
ty, for the year eighteen hundred and forty-five, be and
he is hereby authorised and empowered to collect any
taxes, or balances of taxes, now remaining due and un-
collected by him in said county, in the same manner,
and with the same powers and privileges, as are allowed
by existing laws in such cases made and provided.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said James H.
Barwick, in every instance, before he shall proceed to
the aforesaid collections, make affidavit before some jus-
tice of the peace for Caroline county, that the taxes re-
main due and unpaid, and that he has not received any
security or satisfaction for the same, or any part thereof,
more than the credits which may allowed thereon.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this net shall continue
in force until the first day of April, eighteen hundred
and fifty-one, and no longer.

An act to Incorporate the Schiller Lodge, Number
fifty-five, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

&c.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That George Puhl, George C. Kesler,
George P. Brechtel, Christian Layer, G. C. Peters, P.
Hintz, A. Hacker, H. D. Hider, D. Layer Henry
Dengel, and others, officers and members of Schiller
Lodge, number fifty-five, of the Independent Order of
Odd Fellows, attached to the Grand Lodge of Maryland,
and their successors, be and they are hereby incorpora-
ted and made a body politic and corporate, by the name
and number of Schiller Lodge, number fifty-five, of the
Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of the State of
Maryland, and by that name may sue and be sued, and
have a common seal, and the same at their pleasure
alter, and be entitled to use the powers and privileges
incident to such corporations.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corpo-
ration shall be capable of taking and holding real and
personal estate, not exceeding in value the sum of twelve
thousand dollars, which estate shall never be divided
among the members of the corporation, but shall de-
scend to their successors, for the benevolent relief of
the sick and distressed, the education of the orphans of
