CHAPTER 401.

CHAP. 401.

An act to empower the Board of Commissioners of
Washington County, to divide District Number
Three, of said county, into Wards, or to establish
a new Election District, in said county.

1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Mary land, That for the greater convenience of
voting in said county, it shall be lawful, from and al-
ter the passage of this ad, for the Commissioners of
Washington county, at their discretion, either to di-
vide district number three, into two wards, or to es-
tablish a new election district, in said county.

District to be
divided.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That should the said
commissioners, or a majority of them, determine, in
pursuance of this act, to divide said district into wards,
they shall he designated as ward number one and
ward number two, of district number three of said
county, and at all elections for State or county offi-
cers, a poll shall be opened in each ward, at which
the voters of the wards respectively shall vote, and
the commissioners of said county shall appoint judges
and officers at such polls, for holding the elections in
said county, who shall in all respects be governed by
such laws as are the judges and officers of the. other
election districts in the county, and should the said
commissioners, or a majority of them, in pursuance
of this act, determine to lay out a new election dis-
trict in said county, it shall be designated as district
number ten of said county, and the place of holding
elections for said district shall be Funkstown, where
a poll shall be held at all elections for county and
State officers, at which all the voters of said district
shall vole, and the said commissioners shall appoint
judges and officers to hold the elections in said dis-
trict, who shall in like manner be governed by such
laws as are the judges and officers of other election
districts in the county, and the sheriff of said county
shall give notice of said elections, as in other districts
of the county.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners of Washington county, or a majority of them,
after due deliberation on the subject, shall, on or be-
fore the tenth of August, eighteen hundred and
fifty, make a decision in the premises, and return un-
der their hands and seals, an account of their proceed-
ings in the case to the clerk of the county, whose
