An act to incorporate Mechanicstown Academy, in
Frederick county.

Incorporated,
&c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Daniel Rouzer, William C. Lan-
ders, John Rouzer, John Arthur, Captain George Har-
man, Reverend Simeon Harkey, Reverend Sidney
Harkey, Joseph Willhide, Leonard Peekins, Henry
Rouzer, George H. Johnson, Charles Gilpin, Theo-
dore Curry, William Cover, Christian Harman, Joshua
Stokes, Jacob Lynn, and such others as may become
contributors to the amount of ten dollars, shall be, and
they are hereby declared to be our community, corpora-
tion, and body politic, with succession in deed and in
law, to all intents and purposes connected with the
said institution, by the name and style of the Mechan-
icstown Academy, by which name and title they or any
five of them elected trustees as hereinafter provided, as
their successors, shall be competent in law and equity,
to take and hold to themselves and their successors, for
the use of the said academy, any estate in any messuage,
lands, tenements, immunities., goods, chatties, monies,
or effects, by the gift, grant, or bargain, sale, convey-
ance, devise, or bequest, of any person or persons

whatever; provided, the same do not exceed in the
whole, the clear yearly value of four thousand dollars,
and the same messuages, lands and tenements, and
other estate, real or personal, to farm, and let, and put out
at interest, for the use of said academy, in such manner
as to them or a majority of them shall seem most bene-
ficial to the institution, and to receive the rents, issues,
profits, income, and interests of the game, and apply
the emoluments thereof, to the payment on the original
