and seventy-one.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That any mortgagee, or other person to
whom any bill of sale or mortgage is hereafter exe-
cuted, who resides beyond the limits of the United
States, may make the affidavit required by the original
act to which this is a supplement, at any time upon
the recording of said mortgage or bill of sale, before
any consul or vice consul of the United States, duly
appointed and recognised in and for the district in
which such mortgagee or other person may reside,
and that the certificates of said consuls and vice con-
suls, under their official seals, shall be good and avail-
able, as evidence of the making of such affidavit for
all purposes whatsoever.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That any mortgagee or
other person to whom any bill of sale is hereafter exe-
cuted, who may reside beyond the limits of this State,
may make the affidavit as required by the act to which
this is a supplement, before any person who is autho-
rised, by the laws of this State, to take the acknow-
ledgment of deeds beyond the limits of this State, for
lands within this State.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect and go into operation from the date of its pas-
sage.
