An act to Incorporate the Pius Building Associa-
tion.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, Joseph Acker, Joseph Shaab, John
Winkler, August Albert, Martin Fisher, Adolph Storch,
Valentine Foeller, and others, of the city of Balti-
more, have formed themselves into an association,
under the name and style of the Pius Building As-
sociation; and whereas, the object of the said associ-
ation is to encourage economy and frugality, where-
by the members thereof may, in an easy and secure
manner, accumulate a sum sufficient to build or pur
chase a domicil for their families — Therefore,

Incorporated,
&c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the aforesaid members of said as-
sociation, as well as those who hereafter, according to
the constitution and bye-laws of said association, shall
become members thereof, be and they are hereby
created and made a body politic and corporate, by the
name and style mentioned in the preamble to this act,
and by its name shall have succession for twenty
years, and shall be capable by law to hold and dispose
of property, to sue and be sued, to plead and be im-
pleaded, answer and defend, and be answered and
defended, in all courts of law and equity in this State,
or elsewhere, to receive and make all deeds, trans-
fers, contracts, covenants, conveyances, and grants,
whatsoever, to have, make and use a common seal,
and the same to break, alter and renew at pleasure,
and generally to do every other act or thing necessary
to carry into effect the provisions of this act, and pro-
mote the object and design of the said corporation.

Duty of secre-
tary.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the du-
ty of the secretary of said association to keep a book
containing a copy of this act, and of such constitution
and bye-laws as may be established for the govern-
ment of said association, and that all persons who
may be elected members thereof, shall, upon signing
their names thereto, and upon payment of such fees,
charges and premiums, as may be demanded by the
proper officers of the said corporation, be constituted
members of the said association, and as such, shall
be bound by all the rules and regulations thereof, as
contained in this act, and in the constitution and bye-
laws of the said association.
