1849.

cil county, be and they are hereby authorised and
empowered to levy on the assessable property of Ce-
cil county, a sum of money sufficient for building a
bridge over Big Elk creek, at the causeway near Elk-
ton, in said county.

CHAP. 23.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners be and they are hereby required to let the
contract for building said bridge out to the lowest
bidder, and if the contract for building said bridge
has not already been let, the said commissioners are
hereby required to advertise in due or more papers in
said county, for proposals to build said bridge.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners be and they are hereby required, at the time
of advertising for proposals to build said bridge, to
advertise, for proposals to build a bridge over Big Elk
creek, at Gilpin's ford, in said county, and if the con-
tract for building the said bridge, at the causeway,
near Elkton, is let, the said commissioners are hereby
required to advertise for proposals to build the afore-
said bridge at Gilpin's ford; and the said commission-
ers are hereby restricted and prohibited from exercis-
ing any of the powers granted by this act, in relation
to the bridge at the causeway, near Elkton, unless
they levy on the assessable property of said county,
at their next annual levy, a sum of money, together
with an amount already levied for building the said
bridge at Gilpin's ford, sufficient for building the said
last mentioned bridge, as directed and required by the
act of December session, eighteen hundred and forty-
seven, chapter one hundred and forty-three.

Commissioners
to advertise for
proposals.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners be and they are hereby required to demand
and receive from the person or persons to whom the
contracts for building said bridges may be given, a
bond or bonds, with approved security, that the build-
ing and constructing of said bridges shall be done in-
a workmanlike manner, and for the amount, and
within the time specified in the proposal or proposals
which may be received for building said bridges.
