CHAP. 77.

justice, in the name of the State of Maryland, for the
use of the city of Baltimore, for the recovery of any
fees that may be due and owing; to said city under the
provisions of this act, and not returned as herein pro-
vided.

To be removed
for corrupt be-
haviour, moral
or official.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That upon complaint be-
ing made to the Governor, of improper, irregular or
corrupt behaviour, either in the official or moral conduct
or deportment of any of the said justices of the peace,
he, the Governor, after having given the said justice of
the peace due notice of such complaint, shall, if con-
vinced of the truth of such charges or complaint, dismiss
from office such offending justice, and appoint some
other and more suitable person to fill the vacancy thus
occasioned, and to serve out the residue of the term of
such dismissed justice.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the clerk of Balti-
more county be, and he is hereby directed, when a deed
or other instrument of writing, to which there is a cer-
tificate of acknowledgment, shall be deposited at the
office of the said clerk for record, to set down in a book
to be by him provided for that purpose, the name or
names of the justice or justices before whom such ac-
knowledgment or acknowledgments shall have been
taken, and the number of such acknowledgments, and
at the end of every year the said clerk shall make
report in writing, to the register of the city of Balti-
more, of the number of acknowledgments taken before
each justice of the peace, respectively, during the year,
for all of which the said clerk shall receive no addi-
tional fees or compensation.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That for the convenience
of persons requiring the services and attention of a jus-
tice of the peace, the said justice of the peace shall keep
open their places of official business, each and every
day, Sundays excepted, from the hour of eight o'clock
in the forenoon until one o'clock in the afternoon,and from
three o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the after-

noon; provided always, that nothing herein contained shall
be so taken or construed as to exempt them, or any of
them, from the duty of attending at all times to the crimi-
nal business of the State.

Fees, &c.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That in addition to the
fees now authorised by law to be charged by justices of
the peace in and for the city of Baltimore, they shall
demand and receive, for the use of the said city, the fees
following, that is to say: for every warrant of arrest to-
hold a person to bail to keep the peace twenty-five cents,
and for every recognizance to keep the peace twenty-
