CHAP. 77.

fice of the clerk of Baltimore county court his, the said
justices, bond in the penalty of two thousand dollars,
with good and sufficient sureties to be approved by the
judges of Baltimore county court, and conditioned for
the faithful performance of his duties as justice of the
peace, and his compliance with the provisions of this
act.

Districts to be
designated in
commission.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the Governor, at the
time of appointing and commissioning the said justices
shall, in the commission of each justice, respectively, de-
signate the district within which he shall hold his place
of official business, and the districts and number of jus-
tices for each district, shall be as follows, that is to say:
for all that part of the city aforesaid, lying within the
first, second, third and fourth wards of said city, as at
present divided, three justices of the peace; for all that
part of said city lying within the fifth, sixth, seventh
and eight wards of the said city, three justices of the
peace; for all that part of the said city lying within the
ninth, tenth, eleventh and thirteenth wards, four justices;
for all that part of said city lying within the twelfth,
fourteenth, nineteenth and twentieth wards, three jus-
tices; and for all that part of said city lying within
the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth wards,
three justices of the peace; and for the convenience of
persons living in the city of Baltimore, it is hereby made
the duty of the said justices to hold their places of of-
ficial business in the most convenient business places
within the district which may be designated as aforesaid

Proviso.

in their said commission; provided always, that nothing
herein contained, shall be so taken or construed as to
take from the territorial jurisdiction now allowed to jus-
tices of the peace in and for the city of Baltimore, but
the same shall be as full and as ample in all respects as
though the places for the transaction of their official
business were not designated as herein provided.

Compensation.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That in lien of all fees
and emoluments whatsoever now authorised and allow-
ed to justices of the peace, in and for the city of Bal-
timore, the justices of the peace appointed under and
by the provisions of this act, shall each receive the an-
nual salary or compensation of one thousand dollars, to
be paid quarterly in even and equal instalments, by the

should the amount of fees returned by the said sixteen
justices as aforesaid, at the time of making said quar-
terly payments, not amount in the aggregate to a sum
