ble person or persons for the furnishing of nails for the
use of the respective warehouses, but before entering
into any such contract it shall be the duty of the said in-
spector to cause a notice to be published in two or more
papers printed in the city of Baltimore for two weeks
prior to the said first day of April, inviting sealed pro-
posals for the same, paid notice setting forth the kind
and quality of nail needed, specifying that the same shall
be manufactured of the best American iron, and the
contract shall be awarded to the lowest responsible bid-
der or bidders, who shall give bond with good and suf-
ficient security, to be approved by the inspector, for
the faithful performance of his or their contract.
And be it resolved, That the treasurer shall pay to.
the said contractor or contractors for nails furnished the
respective warehouses quarterly on the first day of May,
August, November and February in each year, on the
presentation of a draft for the same from the inspector
or inspectors to contract for the some.
Resolved, That the inspectors of tobacco in the re-
spective State Tobacco Warehouses shall be authorised
to appoint two clerks, in addition to the chief clerk, and
the salary of each of the said assistant clerks shall be
the sum of five hundred dollars per annum, to be paid
by the treasurer as the chief clerk is now paid.
Resolved, That no contract entered into for the fur-
nishing of nails by virtue of these resolutions, shall con-
tinue for a longer period than two years.

Resolution in favor of Edward Thompson and others
assistant committee clerks.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the treasurer be and he is hereby authorised and direc-
ted to pay to Edward Thompson, George E. Gambrill,
W. C. Tuck, Marbury Brewer and John T. Coleman,
each the sum of thirty dollars, for their services as as-
sistant committee clerks.
