often as it may appeal to him that the interest of the
corporation may require their deliberations.
SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the publication to
be made by the original act to which this is an ad-
ditional supplement, shall in future be made in the
several newspapers printed in Hagerstown, instead of
one German and one English newspaper as required
by said act.

CHAP. 198.

How publica-
tion is to be
made.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and
five Councilmen aforesaid, be and they are hereby
authorised to ascertain and determine in the best man-
ner what in their judgment should be the proper limits
of Hagerstown for all the purposes of taxation, and
that they cause a plat of the said town to be made out,
and that the same be recorded amongst the land records
of Washington county, and that a certified copy there-
of may be used as evidence in all suits or actions in
which the said town may be in any way interested.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and
five Councilmen aforesaid, be and they are hereby
clothed with full power to lay off such streets, alleys
and lines; as in their judgment may be necessary for
the convenience of the said town, and generally tor
exercise a sound discretion in the passage of such
ordinances as may secure the peace and good order of
said town.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That the Major of
Hagerstown may take the acknowledgment of any
deed or instrument of writing required by the laws of
this State to be acknowledged, and any acknowledg-
ment so taken by him shall have the same force and
effect as if taken by two justices of the peace of Wash-
ington county, and the mayor shall be entitled to re-
ceive therefor the sum of fifty cents.

SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That all fines and for-
feitures under the ordinances of said corporation shall
be recovered before the mayor aforesaid, as small debts
are recoverable out of court, and he shall be entitled
to charge the same fees as a justice of the peace would
for similar services on said fines and forfeitures, as
may be recovered before any justice of the peace.

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That this act shaft take
effect from and alter its passage, that all acts or parts
of acts inconsistent with the provisions of this act, be
and the same are hereby repealed.
