CHAP. 99.

county town of Leesburg, Virginia, shall or may open a
book or books, at such place or places as they may de-
signate, for raising subscriptions to construct a bridge at
the Point of Rocks, Frederick county, Maryland, oppo-

upon they shall proceed to receive subscriptions for the
capital stock of the said company, which is hereby lim-
ited at forty thousand dollars, to be divided into eight
hundred shares of fifty dollars each; and the said book
or books shall be kept open for six consecutive days,
and in case of an excess of subscription, the commis-
sioners shall deduct from the largest, in such manner that
no one shall be reduced while any remains larger; and
if the whole number of shares shall not have been sub-
scribed for within that time, the said commissioners, or
a majority of them, shall give notice as aforesaid, of the
time and place or places when and where they will re-
ceive subscriptions for the remaining shares.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commissioners
shall have full power and authority to contract for and
cause to be erected the bridge aforementioned, and are
hereby authorised to select such site for said bridge as
they, or a majority of them shall, in their judgment, deem
most safe and convenient; and they, or a majority of
them, shall have full power and authority to agree with

and appoint such engineer, superintendents, and other
officers as they shall think necessary to construct the
said bridge, and to contract and agree for materials, and
all such articles as they may deem necessary; and they,
or a majority of them, are hereby authorised to draw
upon the treasurer of said company, for all money to pay
the wages of persons by them employed, and for the
materials and labor done.

SEC. 3.And be it enacted, That every person, at the
time of subscribing, shall pay the attending commissioner
or commissioners five dollars for every share by him or
her subscribed for, out of which shall be defrayed, the
expenses for taking such subscriptions and other inci-
dental charges; and the remainder shall be paid over to
the treasurer of the corporation as soon as the same shall
be organised, and the officers chosen as hereinafter men-
tioned.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That as soon as eight hun-
dred shares shall be subscribed, the said commissioners,
or a majority of them, shall call a meeting of the stock-
holders, who shall proceed in person or by proxy to the.
