LAWS OP MARYLAND.

CHAP. 54.

Herzberg, Mark Pollock, Julius Kann, and Charles Stras-
burger, together with such other persons as may become
associated with them, and their successors be, and they
are hereby incorporated and made a body politic and
corporate, for the purpose of moral improvement and
mutual beneficial aid and support, by the name and style
of the Baltimore Fell's Point Hebrew Friendship Con-
gregation, and by that name shall be able and capable in
law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, defend
and be defended, answer and be answered, in any court
of law or equity; and may make and use a common seal,
and the same may alter and change at pleasure, and may
ordain and establish such by-laws and regulations as may
be necessary and convenient for the conducting the af-
fairs of the said incorporation; provided, that the same
be not contrary to the laws of this State, or the United
States.

May hold real
property.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be capable in law to have, take, receive and hold
property, real and personal, and the same to dispose of at
pleasure; provided, always, that the said corporation
shall not at any time hold or possess properly, real, per-
sonal or mixed, exceeding in value the sum of ten thou-
sand dollars.

Issues forbid.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be so construed as to authorise the said corporation
to issue any note, token, device, or other evidences of
debt to be used as current money.

In force for
thirty years.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall continue
in force for the term of thirty years from the date of its
enactment; provided, that the Legislature may at any
time hereafter, when it may be thought expedient, alter,
amend, repeal or annul the same at pleasure.

CHAPTER 54.

Passed Feb.
12, 1847.

A supplement to an act for incorporating a society, to
educate and maintain poor orphan and other destitute
female children, by the name of the Orphaline Charity
School, and to repeal the act of Assembly therein men-
tioned.

Upon same
terms, &c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Baltimore Female Orphan Asylum,
may take charge of, and receive any poor orphan and
