LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 51.

soever, heretofore made or done by or to, the said John
Smith, under his said original name shall be and remain
in full force, effect and operation, and all promises, con-
tracts, deeds and other lawful acts hereafter to be made
or done by or to the said John Smith, by or under the
name of John Charles Alexander Smith, shall be lawful
and binding to all intents and purposes whatsoever, any
law or usage to the contrary notwithstanding.

May receive
bequest, &c.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said John C.
Smith, shall and may be capable in law to recover any
bequest, devise, legacy or other gift, made subsequently
to the passage of this act in the name of John Smith,
and intended for the said John Charles Alexander Smith,
and nothing in this act contained shall be so construed
as to invalidate the right of the said John Charles Alex-
ander Smith to receive, retain and dispose of the same
at his pleasure, and in any manner not inconsistent with,
or repugnant to the constitution and laws of the State of
Maryland, or the United States of America.

CHAPTER 51.

Passed Feb.
12, 1846.

An act entitled, an ad to regulate the compensation of Ju-
rors, Judges, and Clerks of Elections, and other officers
in Baltimore County.

Jurors $1 50
per day.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
the grand and petit jurors of the county aforesaid, shall
receive for each days service, as jurors in the courts of

said county, one dollar and fifty cents per day; provided,
that any juror or jurors residing more than ten miles from
the court-house of said county, shall receive compensa-
tion, at the rate of seven days for each week of his or
their attendance as such, and such compensation shall be
in lieu of any compensation now allowed said jurors by
law.

Not lawful.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall not be lawful
for the sheriff of Baltimore county, to compel the atten-
dance of any citizen of said county, as juror in the courts
of said county, more than one term of said court, during
the term of office of said sheriff.

Two dollars
per day.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the judges and clerks
of election in said county, shall receive, in lieu of any
