An act to allow Lemuel Clements, Trustee of Henry Lilly,
deceased, late Sheriff and Collector of Montgomery
County, further time to complete his collections.

12, 1846.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and alter the passage of this act, Lemuel
Clements, trustee of Henry Lilly, deceased, late sheriff
and collector of Montgomery county, or any trustee that
may be appointed hereafter be, and he is hereby empow-
ered, to collect all fees, taxes and levies in the same
manner in which the said Henry Lilly, was authorised to

do, whilst he was in office; provided, that if any person
or persons, or his, her or their representatives, against
whom any such fees, taxes or levies may have been ren-
dered, will make oath or affirmation before a justice of
the peace, that the same has been satisfied or paid, that
this act shall not extend to such cases; and provided
also, that the powers conferred by this act, shall not con-
tinue in force longer than the first day of April, eighteen

hundred and forty-eight.

CHAPTER 50.

Provisoes

An act to change the name of John Smith, of the City of
Baltimore, to that of John Charles Alexander Smith.

Passed Feb.
15, 1846.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
it shall and may be lawful for John Smith, of the city of
Baltimore, to take and use in lieu of his said name John
Smith, that of John Charles Alexander Smith.

Name altered.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be
lawful for the said John Smith, at all times hereafter, to
be called and known by, and hold and use the name of
John Charles Alexander Smith, and by thai name to sue
and be sued in any court of law or equity, contract, sell,
purchase, convey and devise, and in all cases to have
and exercise such rights, privileges and immunities as
by law, he has ever been entitled to under his said origi-
nal name of John Smith.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all securities, promi-
ses, contracts, assurances, deeds and lawful acts what-
