CHAP. 286.

their own body during the term for which they may be
elected.

Trustees to
appoint trea-
surer.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the trustees, so elected, to appoint a treasurer for the
said school district, who shall give bond to the State of
Maryland, to be approved by said trustees, which bond
shall be kept by said trustees; and it shall be the duty of
said treasurer to collect, or have collected, all the taxes
levied by the provisions of this act, and to pay the same
to the order of the said trustees, by them to be applied
to carrying on said school, and the said trustees shall
pay the aforesaid treasurer a moderate compensation for
his services.

To levy annu-
ally.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the trustees aforesaid
shall have power and authority to levy annually, a tax
on the assessable property included in the aforesaid dis-
trict, a sum not to exceed twenty cents in the hundred
dollars, for any one year, which levy shall be made ac-
cording to the county assessment, which shall be copied
from the commissioners' record, in a book to be kept for
that purpose by said trustees, and which assessment
shall be corrected annually before the levy is made.

Treasurer to
collect.



SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That when the trustees
have made out their levy, it shall be placed in the hands
of the said treasurer, who is hereby authorised to collect
the same, by and under the same laws that the State and
county taxes are collected.

To erect a
suitable house.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the trustees shall have
power and authority to erect, or cause to be erected, or
secured, a suitable house for said school, to be located
where a majority of said trustees shall think most con-
venient to the inhabitants of said district, and to pay for
the same out of the school funds of said district, or by
contribution, as they may think most advisable.

Shall have 12
annual sub-
scribers.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That when the school shall
be organised and shall have twelve annual subscribed
scholars, the trustees shall be entitled to receive from
the school funds of election districts number one and
two, in said county, a sum equal to the share of one
school, to be paid equally out of the. school funds of said
election districts, to the order of said trustees, by the
orphans court of said county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, a portion of the inhabitants, to be included
in this school district, are now taxed for the support of
primary schools in election district number one — There-
fore,

SEC. 8. Be it enacted, That the property which is
now taxed for schools, that may be included in this
