CHAP. 236.

To contract for
building said
bridge.

come necessary, by reason of fixing on some other situa-
tion than where the present public road crosses said creek.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said levy court
be, and they are hereby authorised, to contract with any
person or persons to build said bridge, and are required
to take bond or bonds, with sufficient security, from any
contractor or contractors for the faithful performance of
the contract.

CHAPTER 236.

8, 1847.

An act entitled, an act for the better organization of
Schools in the Fourth Election District of Queen Anne's
County.

Elect three
trustees.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the voters of the several school dis-
tricts, in the fourth election district of Queen Anne's
county be, and they are hereby required to meet in their
respective school districts, on or before the tenth day of
December next, and in like manner in each and every
year thereafter, to elect three trustees for the manage-
ment of each of said schools.

Give notice by
advertisement.

SEC, 2. And be it enacted, That the trustee or trustees
then in office, in their respective districts, shall give no-
tice, by advertisement, in at least three ot the most pub-
lic places, in their several districts, ten days before the
meeting for the election of trustees shall be held, of the
time and place of holding such election, and if there
should be no trustee in any of the said school districts,
then any three of the male taxable inhabitants of said
district, entitled to vote at the general elections, may call
said meeting in the manner before provided for.

Majority of the
whole number
of votes.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall require a
majority of the whole number of the white taxable
inhabitants, above the age of twenty-one years, in each
respective school district, to elect the trustees of the dis-
trict, in which they are entitled to vote, the votes to be
given by ballot.

Trustees to
qualify.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That after the trustees
shall have been elected, they shall proceed immediately
to qualify, by taking an oath before some justice of the
peace, that they will discharge the duties of their office
faithfully and impartially, and shall return a certificate of
