CHAPTER 183.

An act to incorporate the Chesapeake Riflemen, of Bal-
timore City.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That F. B. Steiner, W. M. J. M. Gerder,
Joseph Ruddach, S. E. Smith and others, who now are,
or may hereafter become members of said company, and
their successors, are hereby declared to be a body cor-
porate, by the name, style and title of the Chesapeake
Riflemen, and by that name may hold real or personal
property, not exceeding in value the sum often thousand
dollars, exclusive of the arms and equipments of said

company.

Incorporated.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said company, and
their successors, by the aforesaid name, shall be capable
in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, an-
swer and be answered, defend and be defended, in all
and any courts of justice whatsoever, and before any
judge ov justice, in all and singular actions and demands,
and to ordain, establish and enforce such by-laws, ordi-
nances and regulations as to them shall seem conducive
to the interest of said company, and necessary to the
good government and management thereof, the same not
being contrary to the laws of this State, or of the United

States.

Corporate
powers.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said company is
authorised to receive, in addition to its regular comple-
ment of officers and men, fifty contributing as honorary
members who, upon the payment of five dollars annually,
shall be exempt from the performance of military duties,

except in case of invasion by a foreign foe.

Honorary
members.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained shall be so construed as to authorise or empower
said corporation to issue any notes, token, or certificate,
or evidence of debt to be used as a currency; and that
nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to
deny the right to the General Assembly of Maryland, to
alter, annul or repeal this act of incorporation at plea-
sure.
