cate, and the like sum of three dollars annually thereafter.

CHAP. 131.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be construed to alter or repeal the act of December
session, eighteen hundred and twenty-three, chapter one
hundred and eighty-eight, and its supplements, relating
to uniformed volunteer companies in the city of Baltimore.

An act to incorporate the German Roman Catholic Bene-
ficial Society of Cumberland.

WHEREAS, Francis M. Gramlick, Henry Schriver,
Martin Gramlick, Barnhard Barlage, Henry Cohlman,
Henry Turner, Barnhard Dressman, Harmon Griese,
Casper Brenger, John Gocke, Valentine Helfreck and
Mathias Branker, by their petition to this General As-
sembly represent, that they and others of the county of
Allegany, have formed themselves into an association by
the name of the German Roman Catholic Beneficial So-
ciety of Cumberland, for the purpose of providing a fund
by small periodical contributions in time of health, for
the support of such members of the association, during
sickness, as may hereafter be in need of assistance, and
for the funeral expenses of deceased members, and to
make provision for the widows and orphans of such as
may require it, and with a view, the better to carry out
the benevolent object of the association, have prayed
to be incorporated — Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Francis M. Gramlick, Henry Shriver,
Martin Gramlick, Barnhard Barlage, Henry Cohlman,
Henry Turner, Barnhart Dressman, Harmon Griese,
Casper Brenger, John Gocke, Valentine Helfreck, Ma-
thias Branker, and their associates and successors, and
all those who may hereafter become members of the
said association be, and they are hereby created and
made a body corporate, by the name and style of the
German Roman Catholic Beneficial Society of Cumber-
land, and by that name shall have succession for thirty
years, and be capable in law to sue and be sued, to
adopt and have a corporate seal, to take, hold, sell and
transfer any estate, real, personal or mixed, not exceed-
