CHAP. 132.

ing in the whole the value of five thousand dollars at
any one time, and to adopt a constitution and make any
by-laws, rules and regulations for the government ana
perpetuation of the said society, which are not contrary
to the constitution and laws of the State of Maryland, or
of the United States.

Issues forbid.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained shall be so construed as to authorise this corporation
to. issue any device, token, note, certificate or other evi-
dence of debt to be used as currency.

Right reser-
ved.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the right is hereby
expressly reserved to the General Assembly of Mary-
land, at its pleasure, to alter or repeal this act of in-
corporation.

CHAPTER 132.

Passed March
2, 1847.

A supplement to the act entitled, an act for the education
of the Blind in this State.

Inquire and
make return to
Governor.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
it shall be the duty of the levy courts or county com-
missioners of the several counties and of Howard Dis-
trict of this State, and of the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore, to inquire into, and make return to the Go-
vernor of this State, on the first Monday in May annually,
of the names of all the blind white persons of sound mind,
in their respective counties, district and city, who are in
indigent circumstances or whose private fortunes, in the
opinion of said levy courts or commissioners for said
counties or Howard District, or Mayor and Council of
Baltimore, are insufficient to afford them an opportunity
of removing to some suitable and convenient institution
for the education of the blind to be there educated.

Governor to
select.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the Governor of the State to select annually from
among such blind persons so returned, rateably and pro-
portionably from the several counties and Howard Dis-
trict and Baltimore City, of this State, under the same
rules, limitations and restrictions, as are laid down and
prescribed in the second and third sections of the supple-
ment to an act entitled, an act for the education of the
indigent deaf and dumb of this State, passed at Decem-
