called the Merchants Bank of Baltimore, and the provi-
sions of the eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth and fifteenth
sections of the act creating the said corporation; AND
WHEREAS, it is apprehended that the said provision has
the effect wholly to repeal the fundamental articles of the
Marine Bank of Baltimore as contained in the original
charter passed eighteen hundred and ten, and the acts
supplementary thereto, and supplies others inapplicable
and doubtful in their true intent and meaning; the pre-
sident and directors of the Marine Bank of Baltimore
therefore pray that the charter of the president and di-
rectors of the Marine Bank of Baltimore be extended
until the end of the year eighteen hundred arid fifty-six,
therefore,

CHAP. 45.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the charter of said bank as passed in
the year eighteen hundred and ten, and the acts supple-
mentary thereto in operation prior to January first, eigh-
teen hundred and forty-five, be, and they are hereby re-

stored; provided, however, the president and directors of
the Marine Bank of Baltimore, shall be and are hereby
declared to be subject to the provisions of the eleventh,
twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth sections of the
act creating the Merchants Bank of Baltimore.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall have power to make temporary investments of its
funds in purchase of the public debt of the United
States, or any one of the United States, or of the city of
Baltimore, to an extent not exceeding one-fifth of their
capital as the president and directors for the time being,
may deem safe and beneficial.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall have no
effect, until it shall be accepted and adopted by a resolu-
tion of the president and directors of the said Marine
Bank, authorised at a general meeting of the stockhold-
ers, and a copy of said resolution be transmitted to the
Governor to be filed in the executive department.
