RESOLUTIONS.

perfect security from fire, including the purchase of a
fire engine; that for this purpose they shall, if necessary
in their judgment, provide some other mode of warming
the rooms, have all combustible materials removed from
the cellars and vaults, and generally to have done what-
ever may be required to place the building in the best
state of preservation and security; provided, however,
that the sum to be expended by them shall not exceed
five thousand dollars, to which amount the Treasurer
be and he is hereby authorised to pay their joint draft
out of any unappropriated money in the Treasury.
And be it further resolved, That the committee appointed
under these resolutions be required to keep an accurate
account of the repairs made, and also an accurate ac-
count of all money expended for said repairs, and return
the whole to the Treasurer of the State, who is requested
to lay said statement and account before the next Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland.

No. 37.

Preamble and Resolution in relation to a joint committee
of the Senate and House, to carry into execution res-
olution number eight, passed December session eigh-
teen hundred and forty, during the recess of the Legis-
lature, and to report to the Governor.

WHEREAS, in pursuance of revolution number eight,
of eighteen hundred and forty, a joint committee of the
Senate and House of Delegates, consisting of three mem-
bers, one from the Senate and two from the House of
Delegates, are required to be appointed to execute said
resolution; and whereas, no time remains for said com-
mittee to perform the duties incumbent upon them during
the present session of the legislature — therefore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That said committee may postpone so much of their duty
as is necessary to be performed under resolution number
eight, of eighteen hundred and forty, until after the termi-
nation of the present session of the legislature, and they
are hereby authorised and required to perform said duty
during the recess of the legislature, and make report
thereof to the Governor, to be communicated by him to
the legislature at its next session.
