manently established and marked, and when these land
marks are either lost or destroyed, that they be refixed
and renewed; and whereas, the first boundary stone of
Mason's and Dixon's line, which said line divides the
States of Maryland and Pennsylvania, has been either re-
moved, lost or destroyed, the location of which stone
should be at the north eastern coiner of the State of Ma-
ryland, and at the point where the States of Maryland,
Pennsylvania and Delaware join each other; and whereas,
it is expedient that the said point should be, again estab-
lished and marked, by a stone or a monument—there-
fore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Governor of this State be, and is hereby requested to
take such measures as are in his judgment most proper,
for the re-establishment of the north eastern corner of
this State, where it joins the States of Pennsylvania and
Delaware, at the point where Mason's and Dixon's line
commences, and for re-marking the said point with a
stone or other proper monument.
Resolved, That the Governor of this State be request-
ed to open a correspondence with the Executives of the
State of Pennsylvania and Delaware, relative to the re-
fixing of a stone or monument at the north eastern corner
of this State, at the point where Mason's and Dixon's
line commences, and where the States of Maryland, Penn-
sylvania and Delaware join each other.
Resolved, That if the concurrence of Pennsylvania and
Delaware can be obtained, to the re-marking the com-
mencement and beginning of Mason's and Dixon's line,
and the re-setting of a boundary stone or monument at
the point where the State of Maryland, Pennsylvania and
Delaware join each other, that then the Governor of this
State be, and is hereby authorised and empowered to ap-
point, on the part of this State, a commissioner or agent
who, together with those appointed by the States of
Pennsylvania and Delaware, shall ascertain the original
site of the boundary stone which has been removed, lost
or destroyed, and shall direct the setting of a new stone
or the erection of such monument as may, by the commis-
sioners and agents of the States of Pennsylvania and Del-
aware, be agreed upon, for marking the beginning point
of Mason's and Dixon's line, the division line between
Maryland and Pennsylvania, and the point where the
States of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware join each
other, the same being the north eastern corner of the
State of Maryland.
