CHAPTER 336.

CHAP. 336

An ad to authorise the Mayor and City Council of Bal-
timore to cause a new assessment to be made of the
property in said city.

9, 1846.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the mayor and city council of Baltimore
be, and they are hereby authorised and empowered to
cause a new assessment to be made, of all and every de-
scription of property within the limits of said city, which
is mentioned and described in the first section of the act
passed March session, eighteen hundred and forty-one,
chapter twenty-three, or otherwise existing in any shape,
and not specially exempted by the said act of March
session, eighteen hundred and forty-one, chapter twenty-
three, entitled an act for the general valuation and assess-
ment of properly in this State, and to provide a lax to

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in the execution of
the powers conferred upon them by this act the said
mayor and city council shall have full power and author-
ity, to prescribe the mode of ascertaining the value in
money of the several kinds and descriptions of property,
referred to in the preceding section, owned by each and
every citizen of Baltimore, and others, having property
therein, and for adjusting and settling all differences in
relation thereto, and generally to do all other matters and
things which may be necessary and proper for ascertain-
ing and determining, by a fair and just valuation, the
actual wealth of the citizens of Baltimore, which shall
be chargeable according to such valuation with the pub-
lic assessment.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That when the said new
assessment is complete, the same shall be chargeable ac-
cording to such valuation with the taxes levied for the
use of this State, which shall thereafter be levied accord-
ing to such new assessment.
