CHAP. 319.

CHAPTER 318.

Passed Mar.
6, 1846.

An act. to allow William O. Chappel, former Sheriff and
Collector of Montgomery County, further time to com-
plete his collections.

Time allowed.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That William O. Chappel, former sheriff and collector of
Montgomery county, shall be and he is hereby allowed a
further time until the first day of December, eighteen
hundred and forty-seven, to complete the collection of all
fees and taxes due him as sheriff and collector as afore-
said, in the. same manner as he might have done whilst

Proviso.

in office; provided, that the authority hereby given, shall
not extend to any person or persons of whom any such
fees or tuxes may be claimed, who shall make oath or
affirmation before a justice of the peace, that the fees or
taxes so claimed, have been paid and satisfied.

CHAPTER 319.

Passed Mar.
6, 1846.

A further supplement to the act for the General Valuation
and Assessment of property in this State, and to provide
a Tax to pay the Debts of the State, passed at March
session eighteen hundred and forty-one, chapter twenty-
three.

Repealed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That so much of the original act to which this
is a further supplement, as exempts from taxation all the
property of incorporated literary or charitable institutions,
be and the swipe is hereby repealed; and that from and
after the passage of this act, the property of any such in-
stitutions shall be exempt to the amount often thousand
dollars only.

Levy and im-
pose.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the several and re-
spective levy courts, the commissioners of the tax and the
proper authorities of the city of Baltimore, in levying the
taxes for the year eighteen hundred and forty-six and
succeeding years, shall levy and impose the same upon
all the property of each and every such institution, ex-
ceeding the said sum of ten thousand dollars.
