CHAP. 311.

sors, be and they are hereby created a body corporate,
under the name of the Maryland Tract Society, for the
promotion of evangelical religion and sound morality, by
the circulation of religious tracts and books of which all
evangelical christians approve, agreeably to the provis-
ions of the constitution and by-laws of the said society,
as they now exist, or as they may be from time to time

adopted; provided, that all such regulations be consistent
with the laws of Maryland and the provisions of this
act.

Legal capaci-

ty.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said society, under
their said corporate name, shall have authority to sue and
be sued, appear and be appeared unto, in or before any
court or tribunal of law or equity within or without this
State; and shall also have the privilege to have, make
and use a common seal, and the same at their pleasure
to change or destroy.

Hold property.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be able and capable in law to hold by deed, de-
vice or bequest, any and every estate or interest what-
ver, in property, real, personal or mixed, in possession
or expectancy; and also to use, sell, mortgage, lease,
rent, transfer or otherwise grant or convey all or any por-
tion of the same; provided, that the clear annual income
of their said estate or property, shall not exceed ten thou-
sand dollars.

Issues forbid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be construed to authorise the said corporation to is-
sue any note, token, device, scrip, or other evidence of
debt to be used as currency.

Enure for 30
years.

Right reserv-
ed.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act of incorpora-
tion shall take effect from the date of its passage; and
shall enure for the period of thirty years thereafter; and
that the legislature reserves to itself the right to alter or
annul this act at pleasure.

An act to authorise certain Trustees in Baltimore City to
lease a Bequest.

WHEREAS, doubts exist in the minds of the trustees
