ary twelfth, eighteen hundred and forty-five, chapter se-
venty-seven, section one.

CHAP. 306.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That so much of the said
act as this amendment refers to, be and the same is here-
by repealed.

Repealed.

An act to incorporate the Maryland Sunday School Union.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That George W. Norris, Asa Child, Henry
Thompson, John Brown, William Kemp, C. W. Ridg-
ly, B. A. Vickers, Obed W. Brigs, W. B. Canfield,
Henry Rhodes, S. Guitean, and their associates and suc-
cessors, be and they are hereby created a body corporate,

under the name of the Maryland Sunday School Union,
for the purpose of promoting the biblical instruction of
the rising generation throughout the State, agreeably to
the constitution and by-laws of said society as they now

vided, that all such regulations be consistent with the
laws of Maryland and the provisions of this act.

Proviso.

SEC, 2. And be it enacted, That the said society, un-
der their said corporate name, shall have authority to sue
and be sued, appear and be appeared unto, in or before
any court or tribunal of law or equity within or without
this State, and shall also have, make and use a common

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the same corporation
be able, and capable in law, to hold by deed, devise or
bequest, any estate or interest whatever in property, real
personal or mixed, in possession or expectancy, and also
to use, sell or mortgage, lease, transfer, rent, or other-
wise grant or convey all or any portion of the same;

or property, shall not exceed ten thousand dollars.

Proviso.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be construed to authorise the said corporation to
issue any note, token, device scrip or other evidence of
debt, to be used as currency.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act of incorpo-
ration shall take effect from the date of its passage,
