1845.

the city of Baltimore, on or before the first day of April
next, alter the passage of this act, to ascertain from an
examination of the stock ledger, or other book in which is
recorded the stock loans or issues of the city of Balti-
more, the names of the present holders thereof, and the
names of such persons and corporations as were the pro-
prietors of the same, on the first day of July, eighteen
hundred and forty-four, and also the amount held by
such parties respectively, at the time such examination is
made, and on the said first day of July, eighteen hun-
dred and forty-four.

CHAP. 218.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the said register, to set apart, and pay over to the Trea-
surer of this State, out of the funds in his hands for the
payment of the interest which will become due and pay-
able on said stock loans, on the first day of April next,
after the passage of this act, the tax which became due
and payable on said slock loans lor the year eighteen
hundred and forty-four, in all cases where the holders of
said stock loans on the said first of April next, are the
same persons who were the holders thereof in the year
eighteen hundred and forty-four, when the tax for that
year should have been returned and paid.

the Treasurer
of the State.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the said register, to make out against each and every
person or persons, who held said stock loans in the year
eighteen hundred and forty-four, when the tax for that
year became due and payable, but who is, or may not
be holders thereof, on the said first day of April next,
bills or accounts for the amount of the tax on the
said stock for the year eighteen hundred and forty-four,
which said bills or accounts, shall be by the said register
delivered to the collector of the State tax in the city of
Baltimore for the year eighteen hundred and forty-six, to
be by him collected and paid into the Treasury, when
the parties from whom the same is due, reside in the said
city, for which the said register shall take duplicate re-
ceipts, one of which shall be by him transmuted to the
Treasurer, and in all cases where the said parties reside
out of said city, it shall be the duty of the said collector to
return the said bills or accounts to the Treasurer, with
the place of residence of the party, endorsed thereon,
when the same can be ascertained by him.
