1845.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be
lawful for the said corporation to make by-laws, and
have a common seal for their use, and the same at their
will and pleasure to change, alter and make anew from
time to time, as they may think best, and shall in general
have and exercise all such rights, powers, privileges and
immunities as by law are incident or necessary to corpo-
rations, and may be necessary to the corporation herein
constituted to enable its members to exercise all things
concerning the design of this corporation for the relief;
of the sick and distressed and for the formation of their,
benevolent purposes generally.

CHAP. 181

Make by-laws
and have a
common seal.

SBC. 4. And be it enacted, That the funds and estate
of the corporation, shall not at any time be divided or dis-
tributed amongst the members, or diverted from the pur-
poses contemplated by its formation, without the permis-
sion of the General Assembly of Maryland.

Permission of
Legislature to
be obtained.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be so taken or construed as to allow the said corpo-
ration to issue any note, token, scrip or device, to be
used as a currency.

Issue forbid.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act of incorpora-
tion shall continue and exist for fifty years from its pas-
sage, unless the General Assembly of Maryland should
alter, amend or annul it, which right is reserved to the
legislature to exercise at pleasure.

CHAPTER 181.

years.

An act to make valid a Bill of Sale made to Lewis H.
Brown, of Carroll County.

Passed Feb.
26, 1846.

WHEREAS, It appears to this General Assembly, that
James Redman of Talbot county, did by a bill of sale
dated on the seventh day of January, in the year eigh-
teen hundred and forty-five, sell and dispose of to a cer-
tain Michael Diffenderfer, a certain negro man named
Philip Cypress, aged about, twenty-one years, to serve
the said Diffenderfer or his assigns until the first day of
January in the year eighteen hundred and fifty-five; and
whereas, the said Michael Diffenderfer by a bill of sale
dated the fourth day of October, in the year eighteen
hundred and forty-five, sold the said negro man called
Philip Cypress, to a certain Thomas Wilson and his as-
sings, to serve the same term of years as aforesaid; and
