CHAP. 180.

Proviso.

are hereby authorised and empowered to hold, own, use
and enjoy, as well for education as religious purposes,
the land heretofore conveyed unto them by Benjamin
Nelson and his wife, and Henry Nelson and his wife;
provided, the land so as aforesaid conveyed unto them,
does not exceed three acres of land.

Incorporated.

An act for the incorporation of Maryland Division, Num-
ber Two, of the Sons of Temperance.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Peter F. Young, Samuel Ault, jr., Reu-
ben Chamberlain, William K. Price, Thomas Maccubbin,
Stephen W. Jones, William G. Geckler, John Boligans,
Michael Fawcett, Lorenzo D. Taylor, James V. Brown,
John H. Linzey, Tilghman W. Sparklin, Solon Beale,
William E. Clemm, William P. Spencer, and John H.
Ing, and others, officers and members of Maryland Di-
vision, Number Two, of the Sons of Temperance, and
their successors, be and they are hereby declared to be
a community, corporation and body politic, by the name,
style and title of Maryland Division, Number Two, of
the Sons of Temperance, and by that name they and
their successors shall and may at all times hereafter be
capable in law, to have, hold, receive and retain to them
and their successors, property, real or personal, either or
both, also devises or bequests of any description of pro-
perty, from any person or persons capable in law of
making the same, and the same at their pleasure to trans-

fer or dispose of in such manner as they may think pro-
per; provided always, that the said corporation or body
politic, shall not at any one time hold or possess property,
real, personal or mixed, which shall be of the annual value
of, or yield an income annually exceeding three thousand
dollars.

Corporate
powers.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
and their successors, by the name and title aforesaid,
shall be capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be
impleaded, answer and be answered unto, defend and be
defended in all or any courts of justice and before all or
any judges, officers or persons, in all and singular any
actions, matters or demands whatsoever.
