An act for the benefit of Philip Clayton, Collector of Taxes
for the City of Annapolis.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Philip Clayton, collector of taxes for the
city of Annapolis, for the years eighteen hundred and for-
ty, eighteen hundred and forty-one, eighteen hundred and
forty-two, and eighteen hundred and forty-three, be and
he is hereby authorised and empowered to collect any tax-
es or balances of taxes, now remaining due, and uncollect-
ed by him in said city, in the same manner, and with the
same powers and privileges as are allowed by the existing

laws in such cases made and provided.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Philip Clayton
shall in every instance, before he shall proceed to the afore-
said collection, make affidavit before some justice of the
peace of said county, or before the mayor, recorder or one
of the aldermen of said city, that the taxes remain due and
unpaid, and that he hath not received any security or satis-
faction for the same, or any part thereof, more than the
credits which may be allowed thereon.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall not con-
tinue in force longer than one year from the passage
thereof.

Trustees not
to pay teacher
over $200 per
year.
|
An act in relation to Primary Schools in Charles County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act, it
shall not be lawful for the trustees of any primary school
in Charles county, to authorise the payment to any teacher
in any of the primary schools in said county, out of the
school fund, of any greater sum than at the rate of two hun-
dred dollars per scholastic year, to consist of at least eleven
months, unless the teacher or teachers who may not have
taught the length of time herein specified, shall have been
prevented from attending his, her, or their duties by sick-
ness.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the trustees of each and
every school district, at the time of making their report to
the Orphan's court of said county, shall set forth therein,
the length of time such teacher was actually employed in
teaching children at the school house within said school
district.
