LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1844.

gelical Lutheran congregation of Trinity church in Taney
Town, Carroll county, which may enable them to manage
their temporal affairs with convenience—Therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Henry Cluty, Buffington, John White,
John Mering, Doct. Samuel Swope and George Mering,
they being the present trustees of said congregation, and
their successors to be elected agreeable to the rules and
regulations of said church, shall be and are hereby cre-
ated and declared to be a body politic and corporate by
the name, style and title of the Trustees of the Evangeli-
cal Lutheran Congregation of Trinity Church in Taney-
Town, Carroll county, and by the same name shall have
succession and shall be able to sue and be sued, implead
and be impleaded in any court of law or equity in this
State or elsewhere, and to make and have a common seal,
and the same to break, alter or renew at their pleasure,
and also to ordain and establish such by-laws and ordi-
nances as shall appear necessary for regulating the tem-
poral concerns of said church, not being repugnant to
this act or to the laws of this State.

CHAP. 71.

Incorporated.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That all acts or deeds of said
corporation shall be signed by the trustees or a majority
of them, and seal with their corporate seal, and all deeds by
them for the conveyance of any lands and tenements of the
corporation to which by the laws of the land ought to be
acknowledged and recorded, shall be signed and sealed
as aforesaid, and shall be acknowledged in due form by
the trustees, or a majority of them as such, in behalf of

the corporation, and all acts and deeds of the said body
corporate so authenticated shall be valid and effectual in
law.

SEC. 3. Be it enacted, That the said corporation shall
be capable of purchasing hereafter real and personal estate
not exceeding in value, including their present property,
the sum of ten thousand dollars; and they are hereby
authorised and empowered, if deemed expedient by
the congregation or a majority of them, to sell the present
parsonage house and lot and buy or build another, and
make such other changes and improvements as may be
deemed expedient and necessary by the said corpora-
tion, not being repugnant to this act or the laws of this
State.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained shall be so construed as to authorise the said com-
pany to issue any device, token, note, certificate, or other
evidence of debt, to be used as a currency.
