CHAP. 309.

In the event
of failure.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in the event of a fail-
ure by any constable or constables, to return to the said
levy court or commissioners, the list or lists aforesaid, as
herein provided, the said levy court or commissioners, as
the case may be, shall assess to the said constable or con-
stables so failing to make return of the list or lists as afore-
said, giving the name or names of the purchaser or pur-
chasers, and the value of the properly so sold, on which
shall be levied and collected the direct and county taxes
now provided by law in other cases; and in the event of
a refusal of the said constable or constables to pay the
direct and county taxes so as aforesaid levied on the pro-
perly so as aforesaid assessed to them, the said levy courts

suit.

or commissioners, as the case may be, shall direct the
bonds of the said constable or constables to be put in suit,
when the said bond or bonds shall be liable for the amount
of the said taxes as they are now liable for collections
made by the said constable or constables.

receive 20 per
cent.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That in the event of the said
levy courts or commissioners, as the case may be, being
informed by any person of a sale or sales by any constable
er constables, of. any property included within the pro-
visions of this act, of which no list or lists shall have been
returned as hereinbefore provided, such person so inform-
ing, shall be entitled to receive twenty per centum of the
amount of the tax, when the same shall be collected as
herein provided, from the said constable or constables, or
his or their securities.

An act entitled, an act to Prevent Illegal Voting,

Guilty of a
misdemeanor.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
any person offering to vote in any of the counties of this
State, or in the city of Baltimore, not being at the time of
so offering to vote a citizen of the United States, twelve
months a resident of this State, and six months preceding
the election a resident in the county or city in which he
shall so offer to vote, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and on conviction thereof in the county court of the
county in which said attempts shall be made, or in the city
