CHAP. 27.

it shall be the duty of the sheriff or jailor of Kent coun-
ty, in addition to the duties prescribed by former acts of
Assembly, to furnish to all State prisoners confined in jail,
suitable beds and bedding, to have their clothes regular-
ly washed, and to furnish fire when necessary, to keep
them comfortable.

Levy court to
levy.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in lieu of the com-
pensation now allowed for victuals, and keeping them in
prison, and the annual allowance made by the levy court
of said county, for fire wood and blankets to the said
sheriff or jailor, he shall hereafter be allowed, and the levy
court aforesaid, are hereby authorised and required to le-
vy on the assessable property of said county, a sum not
exceeding thirty-five cents a day, for each State prisoner
confined in said jail, for every day he shall be so confin-
ed, which compensation shall be in lull for all the duties,
or services required of him by this or any former act of
Assembly.

Repealed.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all acts or parts of acts
of Assembly heretofore passed, as are inconsistent or con-
trary to this act, be and the same are hereby repealed, and
that this act shall go into effect, from and immediately af-
ter its passage.........

A further supplement to the act entitled "an act to aid in the
establishment of a Female Seminary in Frederick City.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is represented to this General Assembly,
That the present number of commissioners appointed un-
der said original act, to which this is a supplement, ought
to be increased from five to nine—Therefore

Commission-

ers.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Richard Potts, Frederick A. Schley,
Lloyd Dorsey, and Samuel Tyler, be, and they are hereby
appointed commissioners, together with the present acting
commissioners of the Frederick Female Seminary, and the
said commissioners hereby named and appointed, shall
have and exercise the same powers, and perform the same
duties, and subject themselves to the same liabilities, in
connection with the said five acting commissioners, as if
they had been appointed in the original act, to which this
is a supplement. And the said board of commissioners
shall, after the passage of this act, consist of nine, instead
of five members, and their duties, powers, and liabilities
