LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1841.

Johnson and James J. Hurley, or either of them as justices
of the peace for Washington county, shall in no manner
be affected by reason of the informality of their commis-
sions, but that all the official acts and proceedings of either
of them shall be as valid and effectual to all intents and
purposes, as if the said John Johnson and James J. Hur-
ley had been lawfully and regularly commissioned.

CHAPTER 25.

 

An act for the relief of John N. Bowland, former Sheriff
and Collector of Somerset County.

Passed Jan.
25, 1845.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That John N. Bowland, late sheriff and collector of Som-
erset county, be and he is hereby authorised and empow-
ered to collect and receive all and any balance or amount
of officer's fees, chancery taxes, fines and forfeitures, and
county taxes, which may be due to the said John N. Bow-
land, as sheriff and collector aforesaid, in the same man-
ner and with the same power and privilege as are now al-
lowed by law, and in the same manner and to the same
effect as if the term of office of the said John N. How-
land, as sheriff and collector as aforesaid, had not yet ex-
pired, that if any person against whom there is a claim
by said John N. Bowland, for officer's fees, chancery tax-
es, fines and forfeitures or county taxes as aforesaid, shall
make affidavit before any justice of the peace of said
county, that he or she believes the same to be unjust, or
that the same had been paid at any previous time, to the
person claiming the same, it shall forever bar such claims;
and provided, that nothing in this act shall be construed
to effect the estate of any deceased person; and provided
also, that this act shall only continue in force for one year
from its passage.

An act to prescribe the duties and fix the compensation of
the Jailor of Kent County, in certain cases therein men-
tioned.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
