LXX.

ter the drawing thereof, to the payment of the prizes drawn therein to the adventurers to whom
they shall be due, and the necessary expences incurred in the management thereof, and the resides
to the purchase of a fire engine for the use of said town.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be lodged in the clerk's office of Frederick
county, to be there recorded, and upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be
instituted for any breach of noncompliance with the condition thereof.

CHAP. LXXI.

Passed 25th of
January, 1806.

An ACT to authorise a lottery to raise a sum of money for building
a bridge over a branch of Patuxent river at or near the mill of
John Crow.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Charles
Alexander Warfield, Brice J. Gassaway, Thomas Worthington, James Ray, Richard Snow-
den, John Crow and James H. Rawlings, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery
for raising a sum of money, not exceeding one thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tick-
ets thereof; provided the said Charles Alexander Warfield, Brice J. Gassaway, Thomas Worthing-
ton, James Ray, Richard Snowden, John Crow and James H. Rawlings, or such majority of them
as shall undertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in
said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of two thousand dollars, con-
ditioned, that they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within six
months after the drawing of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for
prizes drawn by them, and after deducting the necessary expences incurred in said lottery, shall,
within twelve months from the time, the drawing of said lottery shall commence, cause a good and
substantial bridge to be erected over and across the branch of Patuxent river at or near the mill of
John Crow, and shall apply the overplus, if any, of the money raised by said lottery, to the repair-
ing of the said bridge as from, time to time it shall be necessary.

II. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of the said commissioners, before they act
such, to lodge such bond in the clerk's office of Anne-Arundel county, there to be recorded, and up-
on such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted against the obligors therein,
or any of them, or their or any of their legal representatives, for any breach or noncompliance with
the condition of the same.

CHAP. LXXII.

Passed 25th of
January, 1806.

An ACT authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for the pur-
pose of rebuilding the steeple of the German reformed church in
Frederick-town, in Frederick county.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants
of Frederick-town, in Frederick county, that the steeple of the German reformed church in
said town, containing the town clock, has become so decayed as to render it necessary to have it
taken down, and the public would thereby in a great measure be deprived of the benefit of the same
clock, and that the congregation owning the said church to which the steeple is attached, not being
able to rebuild the same without some pecuniary aid, and praying that a law may pass authorising a
lottery to raise a sum of money for the purpose of rebuilding the said steeple; and the prayer there-
of appearing reasonable, therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for John
Schley, Abraham Shriver, Grafton Duvall, Michael Houser, Henry Koontz, junior, Philip Rohr
and George Baer, junior, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising a sum of
money, not exceeding twelve hundred dollars, and sell and dispose of the tickets in said lottery, and
they are hereby authorised to draw said lottery; provided that the said John Schley, Abraham Shri-
ver, Grafton Duvall, Michael Houser, Henry Koontz, junior, Philip Rohr and George Baer, junior,
or such majority of them as shall undertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal
of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of
three thousand dollars, conditioned, that they will well and truly apply so much money arising there-
from, within twelve months after the drawing of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the for-
tunate adventurers for prises drawn by them, and after deducting the necessary expences incurred
in said lottery, shall, within one year from the time the drawing of said lottery shall commence
