safety and having been passed by a yea and nay vote, sup-
ported by three-fifths of all the members elected to each
of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 497
(House Bill 397)

AN ACT to add a new sub-section to Section 92 of Article
33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Elections", sub-title "Elections", said new sub-
section to be known as Sub-section (e) and to follow im-
mediately after Sub-section (d) of said section, providing
that voting machines shall be used in elections in Cecil
County and providing for the purchase and the custody
of said voting machines.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That a new sub-section be and it is hereby added
to Section 92 of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition), title "Elections", sub-title "Elections",
said new sub-section to be known as Sub-section (e), to
follow immediately after Sub-section (d) of said section,
and to read as follows:

92.

(e) (1) In all elections in Cecil County, the use of voting
machines shall be mandatory, beginning with the primary
election to be held in 1954, and it shall be the duty of the
County Commissioners of said County to provide the neces-

ary funds
to purchase, rent, lease, or otherwise acquire
and provide voting machines for all polling places in said
County.

(2) Said Board of Election Supervisors shall appoint a
custodian of voting machines and a deputy custodian whose
duty it shall be to prepare the machines for use. The cus-
todian and deputy custodian shall be appointed respectively
