among the personnel thereof, and employ such number of
personnel in said Departments as it may from time to time
deem necessary and provide for by Ordinance. Nothing
herein shall be construed as affecting any rank or ratings
now held by any members of said Departments and no
re-classification of positions shall be made within said
Departments which will constitute a lowering in status of
any present classification, or result in a demotion to anyone
holding a present rating.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.

AN ACT to repeal sub-section (q) of Section 38 of Article
87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties",
and to add a new sub-section to said Section to be known
as sub-section (q) and to stand in the place and stead
of the sub-section so repealed, relating to the compensa-
tion and duties of the Sheriff of Queen Anne's County
and the appointment, compensation, and duties of the
Deputy Sheriff in Queen Anne's County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That sub-section (q) of Section 38 of Article 87 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Sher-
iffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", be and the same
is hereby repealed, and that be and there is added a new
sub-section to said Section to be known as sub-section (q)
and to stand in the place and stead of the sub-section so
repealed, and all to read as follows:

(q) The Sheriff of Queen Anne's County shall receive an
annual salary of $2, 200. 00 and an expense account of
