SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 821 of Article 11 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Frederick Coun-
ty", sub-title "Treasurer", as said Section was amended by
Chapter 257 of the Acts of 1951, be and the same is here-
by repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and to read
as follows:

821. [The said Treasurer is hereby authorized to ap-
point a chief clerk at a salary of not less than two thou-
sand nor more than three thousand dollars per annum and
a stenographer at a salary of not less than sixteen hun-
dred nor more than twenty-six hundred dollars per annum,
payable monthly, the exact amount of said salaries to be
fixed by the said Treasurer, in his discretion; the County
Commissioners are hereby authorized and directed to levy
a sum sufficient to pay said salaries as fixed by the said
Treasurer. And the said County Commissioners are fur-
ther authorized and directed to levy a sum sufficient each
year to pay the premium on the bond required of the
County Treasurer and to pay for the same, and to levy
not more than three hundred dollars per year for legal
fees, to be paid by said Treasurer. ]

The said Treasurer is hereby authorized to appoint a
chief clerk and a stenographer at salaries to be set by the
said County Treasurer and submitted in his annual budget
to the County Commissioners of Frederick County for the
approval of the said County Commissioners. The said
County Treasurer is also authorized to secure such addi-
tional clerical assistance with the approval of said County
Commissioners as shall be necessary for the proper con-
duct of his office as tax collector and County Treasurer;
the County Commissioners are hereby authorized and di-
rected to levy a sum sufficient to pay said salaries and
additional clerical services as provided herein. And the
said County Commissioners are further authorized and
directed to levy a sum sufficient each year to pay the
premium on the bond required of the County Treasurer and
to pay for the same, and to levy not more than five hun-
dred dollars per year for legal fees, to be paid by said
Treasurer.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.
