Director of Kindergarten Schools for Prince George's
County.
(b) Said Director shall establish a Kindergarten School
in any school district within said County when parents of
at least thirty children between the ages of four and six
residing within said district petition the Board of Education
for the establishment of such a kindergarten school. Upon
receipt of a petition from any school district, the Director
shall determine from the County Board of Education and
the County Commissioners, whether there is space for a
kindergarten school in any county-owned or controlled
building suitable for use as a kindergarten school, and if
such space is available the County Commissioners or the
Board of Education shall furnish it to the Director for
kindergarten use. Where no space as aforesaid is avail-
able the Director shall make an investigation in said dis-
trict to determine whether space can be obtained from any
source, private or public, free of charge or for a reason-
able rental and where such space is available, the Director
shall secure it for kindergarten use.
(c) The Director is further authorized and directed to
co-operate with existing kindergarten programs in develop-
ing a county-wide system of kindergarten schools. The
Board of Education shall furnish to the Director such
technical advice, supervision, assistance and facilities as
possible without impeding the development of adequate
educational facilities within the County. The salary of the
Director shall be paid by the Board of Education who shall
also approve and pay all reasonable expenses incurred by
the Director in establishing kindergarten schools.
(d) Teachers for said kindergarten schools shall be ap-
pointed by the Director and the costs of the salaries for
said teachers and operating and maintaining said kinder-
garten schools shall be paid by the Board of Education from
tuition fees to be set and levied on each child attending
said schools.
(e) The Director shall discontinue any kindergarten
school where enrollment drops below thirty children, unless
the parents of such children agree to an increase in tuition
to cover the cost of operating and maintaining a kinder-
garten school. The Director shall collect and pay to the
Board of Education all tuition fees and said Board shall
submit a yearly audit of kindergarten school accounts to the
Board of County Commissioners. The Director is further
authorized to accept from any source, public or private,
donations, bequests, gifts or any other aid of any sort
