of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title
"Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
38.
(r) The Sheriff of St. Mary's County shall receive an
annual salary of $3,300 and he shall be allowed in addition
thereto the sum of $1,200 for expenses. He shall appoint
one Deputy who shall reside in the vicinity or area of
Lexington Park who shall receive an annual salary of
$2,400 and $600 annually for expenses, and one Deputy
who shall reside in the Third Commissioner District, [each
of whom] who shall receive an annual salary of $1,800
and $600 annually for expenses. He shall also appoint one
Deputy who shall reside in or near the town of Leonardtown
whose principal duty shall consist of policing said town,
and he shall receive an annual salary of $900.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.

CHAPTER 379
(House Bill 697)
AN ACT to repeal Section 140 of Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Washington County", sub-title "County Commission-
ers", and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 144 of said Article, as said section was amended by
Chapter 432 of the Acts of 1943, providing that the
Clerk to the County Commissioners of Washington
County shall be appointed by said County Commissioners
as provided in Section 1 of Article 25 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition); and relating to the
compensation of the Clerk to the County Commissioners,
the Assistant to said County Clerk and the Attorney for
said County Commissioners.
