SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (h) of Section 38 of Article 87 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Sher-
iffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", be and it is
hereby repealed and that a new Sub-section (h) be and
it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place
and stead of the subjection so repealed, and to read as
follows:
38.
(h). (1). The Sheriff of Charles County shall receive
an annual salary of $3600. He may appoint six full-time
deputies, at an annual salary not to exceed $2800. and may
appoint two special deputies at an annual salary not to
exceed $2000. He may appoint other special deputies sub-
ject to the approval of the County Commissioners of
Charles County as may be deemed necessary at such
annual salary as the County Commissioners shall fix. The
Sheriff shall also be allowed $400. per year for personal
expenses.
(h). (1). THE SHERIFF OF CHARLES COUNTY
SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL SALARY OF $3600.
HE MAY APPOINT NOT MORE THAN SIX FULL-
TIME DEPUTIES, AT AN ANNUAL SALARY NOT TO
EXCEED $3000. EACH; AND MAY APPOINT TWO SPE-
CIAL DEPUTIES WHO SHALL EACH RECEIVE AN
ANNUAL SALARY OF NOT MORE THAN $2000; AND
MAY APPOINT SUCH OTHER SPECIAL DEPUTIES,
SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE COUNTY COM-
MISSIONERS OF CHARLES COUNTY, AS MAY FROM
TIME TO TIME BE DEEMED NECESSARY, AT SUCH
ANNUAL SALARIES AS THE COUNTY COMMISSION-
ERS SHALL FIX. THE SHERIFF SHALL ALSO BE AL-
LOWED $400. PER YEAR FOR PERSONAL EXPENSES.
(2) The County Commissioners of Charles County are
hereby authorized to provide such other equipment and
OTHER personnel as may be requested by the Sheriff for
law enforcement at an annual cost not to exceed $25, 000.
Such equipment and personnel shall consist of
a. Not more than four new automobiles.
b. Radio equipment; not more than four radio opera-
tors and committing magistrates.
c. Operating expenses of automobiles, radio equipment
and office supplies., OFFICE SUPPLIES AND OTHER
NECESSARY EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES.
