Police Department of Baltimore City. The uniformed
police force shall consist of six inspectors of police, one to
be designated, from time to time, by the Police Commis-
sioner as chief inspector, to be assigned to such duties as
the Police Commissioner may from time to time direct,
with full power to the Police Commissioner to change such
chief inspector at any time he may desire to do so and ap-
point another one of the inspectors to the duties of said
chief inspector; not more than fifteen (15) captains; not
more than seventy-five (75) lieutenants; not more than
three hundred and fifteen sergeants, not more than [six-
teen hundred and twenty-five (1625)] eighteen hundred
and twenty five (1825)
TWO THOUSAND AND EIGHT-
EEN (2018) patrolmen IN THE CALENDAR YEAR 1954
AND NOT MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND TWO HUN-
DRED AND EIGHTEEN (2218) PATROLMEN IN THE
CALENDAR YEAR 1955 AND THEREAFTER; one
policewoman with the rank of sergeant and thirteen (13)
other policewomen. The civilian and clerical employees of
the Police Department of Baltimore City may include one
(1) Traffic Engineer; five (5) investigators; one (1)
draftsman, and one (1) clerk, Traffic Bureau; one (1)
supervisor, Taxicab Bureau; twenty-six (26) matrons; one
(1) male stenographer; one (1) lineman designated as
assistant foreman; one (1) lineman designated as foreman
and thirteen (13) linemen, Telephone and Signal Division;
eighteen (18) charwomen; three (3) hostlers; thirty-eight
(38) chauffeurs; one (1) chief engineer, two (2) engineers
and three (3) firemen, Marine Division; one (1) foreman,
such number of maintenance men and laborers as may in
the judgment of the Commissioner be necessary; one (1)
chief machinist; fourteen (14) machinists; one (1)
printer; twenty-four (24) turnkeys; twenty-five (25) sig-
nal and telephone operators; eight (8) station-house
clerks, and such additional clerks and civilian employees
for duty at police headquarters, or elsewhere in the City
of Baltimore, as may in the judgment of the Police Com-
missioner be necessary. THE ADDITIONAL PATROL-
MEN AUTHORIZED FOR 1954 AND 1955 SHALL BE
ADDED TO THE POLICE FORCE IN EQUAL QUAR-
TERLY ADDITIONS.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect January 1, 1954.
