1840 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
great dam, known generally as the Savage River Dam, in
Garrett County, for the purpose of controlling floods and
providing for a regulated supply of water in the upper
reaches of the Potomac River; and
WHEREAS, A number of problems have arisen, as a re-
sult of the completion of this dam, which call for some
solution for the welfare of the residents of Western Mary-
land; and
WHEREAS, The Upper Potomac River Commission,
created by Chapter 409 of the Acts of 1935, is the official
agency which, for the State of Maryland, was concerned
in the construction of the Savage River Dam; and
WHEREAS, This agency, while still in existence, has little
power and no funds for the alleviation of the problems
which have arisen; and
WHEREAS, These problems include a study of the steps
necessary for the maintenance of a road which runs along-
side the dam, from Bloomington to the northern section
of the dam, a study of possibilities for improving the
domestic water supply in the Town of Westernport by
reason of the objectionable color and odor of the water as
taken from the dam, and also a study of what authority
should, in the future, be the controlling authority for
similiar questions and as to the source of funds for this
controlling authority; and
WHEREAS, It is the judgment of the General Assembly
that a special commission of State and local officials should
be appointed to study these and other problems concerning
the Savage River Dam and to make recommendations as
to their settlement; therefore be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
following be and they are hereby named as members of a
special commission to study the problems herein raised con-
cerning the Savage River Dam:
The Chairman of the State Roads Commission
The Director of the State Department of Health
The Director of the State Department of Forests and
Parks
The Attorney General of Maryland
The Director of the State Planning Commission
