"Dorchester County", sub-title "Cambridge", as the same
were amended by Chapter 923 of the Acts of 1943, be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
47A. The Commissioners of Cambridge shall appoint a
Supervisor of Elections who shall be designated "Super-
visor of Elections of Cambridge" and be a resident and
qualified voter of the town, and unless removed for cause
by the Commissioners shall hold office for four years from
the date of his appointment and until his successor is
appointed and qualified.
The Supervisor of Elections shall be paid a salary of
[one] two hundred fifty dollars in September of each and
every year in which a regular election is held, and his
duties shall be as hereinafter provided in this Article. In
the event, for any reason, the Supervisor of Elections, at
any time, is unable to serve and perform the duties of his
office, the town clerk, treasurer and collector of Cambridge
shall assume and perform the duties of said office of Super-
visor of Elections, and, when acting for and in the place
of the Supervisor of Elections is empowered, authorized
and directed to perform all the duties of said office. In the
event the town clerk, treasurer and collector is obliged to
so assume and perform the duties of said office of Super-
visor of Elections the salary of said office shall be appor-
tioned between the town clerk, treasurer and collector and
the Supervisor of Elections, in amounts set by and in the
discretion of the Commissioners of Cambridge.
48. The Commissioners of Cambridge may cause to be
made, in any year, a general registration of the legal voters
in each of the several wards of this city, the qualifications
of such voters to be such as are now prescribed by the
Constitution and laws of this State and of this Article,
such registration shall be essential to the right to vote at
any election held under this Article, or under any of the
provisions of any Act of the General Assembly, submitting
any proposition or question to the decision of the voters
of the City of Cambridge. In order to effect such general
registration, the Supervisor of Elections, on or before the
first day of May, in every year in which a general regis-
tration is held appoint two persons from each ward, with
disregard as to political faith, to act as officers of registra-
tion in their respective wards, who shall sit on two consecu-
tive days, viz: the first Tuesday and first Wednesday in
May, and also on the first Wednesday and the first Thurs-
day in July, between the hours of [9] 7 A. M. and [5]
