(Senate Bill 117)

AN ACT to add a new sub-section to Section 178 of Article
77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 15. Public
Libraries", said new sub-section to be known as Sub-
section (b-1) and to follow immediately after Sub-
section (b) of said section, relating to State aid for
current expenses for public libraries which shall be
provided annually in the State budget.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new sub-section be and it is hereby added to Section
178 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Public Education", sub-title "Chap-
ter 15. Public Libraries", said new sub-section to be known
as Sub-section (b-1), to follow immediately after Sub-
section (b) of said section and to read as follows:

(b-1) For those counties and Baltimore City in which
public libraries have been established and are operating
under this sub-title, the State budget shall provide annually
, BEGINNING WITH THE FISCAL YEAR STARTING
JULY 1, 1954, a State aid fund for current expenses, said
fund to be the sum of forty cents (40c) TEN CENTS (10c)
per capital, based upon the latest regular Federal census.
Such funds shall be in addition to those funds provided
under Sub-section (a) and Sub-section (b) of this section
and shall be used for current operations of the library and
not for the purchase of land, the erection of buildings, or
for debt reduction.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1953.
