THEODORE R. MCKELDIN, GOVERNOR 1705

Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Prince George's County", sub-title "Fire Com-
panies", said new section to be known as Section 603B
and to follow immediately after Section 603A of said
Code, providing an annual fire tax within a designated
area of Prince George's County and relating generally
to the disposition of said tax and providing for a
referendum thereon.

WHEREAS, It is the intention of the General Assembly of
Maryland to provide for the levy, collection and distribu-
tion of the Fire Tax as provided in this Act for a period
of six (6) years, so that further legislation may be con-
sidered during such time and enacted to provide a more
equitable levy and distribution based upon the fire-fighting
facilities in existence at the time of such future legislation;
now therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to
the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County
(1943 Edition), being Article 17 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince George's County",
sub-title "Fire Companies", said new section to be known
as Section 603B, to follow immediately after Section 603A,
and to read as follows:

603B. (a) There shall be levied and assessed an annual
fire tax in the amount of Eight Cents upon each One Hun-
dred Dollars of the assessed valuation of the real and per-
sonal property within the 17th (Chillum) Election Dis-
trict, as constituted on January 1, 1953, except that portion
which is bounded by the west side of New Hampshire
Avenue, the south side of Ethan Allen Avenue, the Takoma
Park City boundary line, and the District of Columbia—
Maryland State line, but not including property within any
incorporated area.

(b) The proceeds of the tax collected each of the first two
tax years after this Act becomes effective shall be disbursed
by the appropriate officer of Prince George's County on the
basis of fifty per cent, to the Chillum-Adelphi Volunteer
Fire Department, Inc., and as shown in Sub-section (e),
fifty percent, to the authorized fire companies of Mt.
Rainier, Brentwood, Hyattsville, College Park, and River-
dale, Maryland.

(c) During the next succeeding two-year period the por-
tion of the total annual tax proceeds to be disbursed to the
Chillum-Adelphi Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., shall be
