by the County Commissioners of Wicomico County or by
said County Roads Board for Wicomico County shall be and
remain in the County Commissioners of Wicomico County,
Maryland.

237. The members of the County Roads Board for
Wicomico County shall each receive, in addition to their
compensation as County Commissioners, compensation
from the County at the rate of Twenty-five Dollars
($25. 00) a day as members of said County Roads Board,
payable only upon attendance in performing their duties
as members of said Board but not otherwise. Said County
Roads Board shall meet on the first Tuesday of each month
following the first meeting in each month of the County
Commissioners for Wicomico County, and as often there-
after as said County Roads Board shall deem it necessary
for the proper performance of its duties.

238. The County Roads Board shall within sixty (60)
days after the effective date of the taking over of the con-
struction, reconstruction and maintenance of the County
Roads in Wicomico County, appoint some competent person
as County Roads Engineer with the qualifications set out in
Article 89B, Section 173 of the Code of Public General Laws
of Maryland (1951 Edition). The first term of office of
said County Roads Engineer shall run till June 30, 1957,
and succeeding terms thereafter shall run for four (4)
years accounting from the end of the previous term. He
shall be subject to dismissal by the County Roads Board
during his term for proper cause. He shall be under and
subject to the authority of the County Roads Board and
shall have charge of making surface plats, profiles and
specifications for the grading, drainage, maintenance, re-
pair and construction of the public roads, bridges, drains,
water courses, public landings, culverts, ferries, curbing
and guttering in the County and also shall do or supervise
the doing of all necessary engineering and other work in
connection therewith. He shall receive such salary and
payable in such manner as the County Roads Board shall
determine.

239. The said County Roads Board is hereby authorized
and directed to employ a clerk and an attorney to said
Board and to fix their annual compensation and the manner
of payment. If the clerk and/or attorney appointed to the
County Roads Board is the same person or persons as the
clerk and/or attorney to the County Commissioners, such
compensation shall be in addition to that paid for services
